Cassiel, The Watcher

Symbol A watchful eye in the clouds
Home Plane The Skies of Heaven (Heaven)
Alignment Neutral Good
Favoured Domains Good, Celestial, Exorcism, Inquisition, Sky
Favoured Weapon Khakkhara (Quarterstaff)

Cassiel is said to reside in the clouds between the upper plane and Heaven, and record the events that transpire around him. He is the silent protector and watcher of all that is good, rarely ever speaking to others directly, but instead choosing to speak through his vessels. Unless circumstances are incredibly dire, he will never directly intervene in events, rather choosing to allow events to unfold of their own accord.

Abilities: Detect Outsider (functions as detect alignment spells, but detects outsiders, regardless of alignment. Does not give outsider's alignment), smite outsider, censure outsiders (as knight of the chalice, except against all outsiders). These abilities do not affect native outsiders. Cassiel believes in non-interference on the material plane, and as such grants his paladins the abilities needed to ensure that. See paladin variants for more information.

Code of Conduct: A paladin of Cassiel must be of Neutral Good alignment and loses all class abilities if she ever ceases to be Neutral Good. In the case of an alignment change, the paladin's powers can only be restored by an atonment spell by a cleric of Cassiel. The paladin may choose either the aura of freedom or the aura of courage abilities at 3rd level from the paladin of freedom or the standard paladin. A paladin of Cassiel must strive to spread goodness in the world, but more importantly, the paladin's duty is to ensure that this goodness is born from mortals themselves, and as such strives to banish any and all outsiders who seek to influence mortals in any way, be it for good or for evil, for law or for chaos.

Associates: A paladin of Cassiel may never willingly aid any outsider in influencing mortals, but she may seek the aid of outsiders in the task of banishing those that interfere. Paladins of Cassiel have been known to associate with fiends to this end, however it is highly frowned upon unless there is absolutely no other alternative, as fiends are manipulative and will typically hold an ulterior agenda in the process. Paladins of Cassiel are not limited in their associates by alignment, however, in their pursuit for good, an associate who consistently commits acts of evil and shows no capability of repentance should be brought to justice.
